Hold your own

This game is about finding yourself stranded on an island and fighting the elements, gathering resources and seeing if you have what it takes. You might encounter hunters and animals that you'll have to fight with to claim resources and expand building capabilities. Since launching, we've added quests in single-player and a NEW multiplayer mode without quests.

We wanted to make a survival game that’s not about feeling like you are on the verge of dying, while fighting off and defending your base. In Hold Your Own it’s easier to find food and water, but AI is harder to kill and coming after you. We want players to have fun, build their base so they can spend their time on fun quests and killing AI.

The graphics and quality of the game are our most important priority during Early Access. We know that all the features in the world can’t attract players if the game keeps crashing. So while we’re starting in single-player, our goal is to keep evolving and strengthening the systems to be ready for multiplayer eventually.

We’re ready to launch and will be putting out regular updates and any unforeseen bug fixes.

Game News

CHANGE - Reduced sound level of the Ground Torch, would get very loud when many of them in close proximity. BUG FIX - Clients could not use hotbar items in MP games after getting out of cars. BUG FIX - The zoom offset of the sniper rifle was no longer the correct value since I changed the games FOV. The result was that the projectile did not hit the target where it should have and what clearly looked like a successful head shot was hitting the AI in the chest.

BUG FIX - Cow levels and milk drop times were not as should be. BUG FIX - Crafting in stations was not always working. Clicking the craft button would simply not work eventhough all the prerequisites were met.

BUG FIX - Cows would no longer produce milk after a game load. BUG FIX - I think I finally found the cause of player controls getting locked up. Since I have never been able to reproduce this issue, I am uncertain if it was the only cause. Please let me know after this update is installed if it happens again. BUG FIX - A cave was removed on Coby Island by mistake resulting in a Hole on the map. The cave was added back. Optimazation - A delay/lag in firing of arrows in MP improved. Its not perfect yet but as I optimize network lag and performance it will get better. Optimization - Reduction in replicated ojbects on the map to improve overall network lag in MP games. The most noticable change is that some POIs have doors open or missing by default and can't be interacted with.

This small update is mainly to address multiplayer performance. BUG FIX - Doors would sometimes jitter/lag when opening and closing them in MP games. BUG FIX - Lag when opening loot containers such as counters, desks etc in MP games. BUG FIX - Lag/jitter when walking and running in MP Games BUG FIX - Lag when opening crafting stations, such as campfire, forge etc. CHANGE - Changes to the Motel POI. Only has 1 floor now.

Hi everyone, Experimental V6 will now be pushed to the public branch. Thank you to everyone that helped debug it. Below is a complete list of all changes and additions. BUG FIX - Could not drop the splint item from inventory. BUG FIX - Boat would slowy drift when not in it, should be fixed now. BUG FIX - AI would not spawn on Coby Island. BUG FIX - Road collisions still had some issues, I think I fixed them all now. CHANGE - I removed several caves because they were performance hogs but I have now identified caves on the both the mini map and larger map with a subtle cave icon.

CHANGE - Animals no longer block cars when driving into them. Cars wont flip out of control anymore when hitting them. BUG FIX - Some road collisions were not right resulting in Cars being flipped or blocked from driving on. BUG FIX - Car Lights were not always working. BUG FIX - Clients could not see plants being planted in the Plant Bed in MP Games. BUG FIX - Players could sometimes not get out of the car unless fully stopped, especially true in MP games.

OPTIMAZATION – Clients experience lag in multiplayer games, I have started to track down and fix a few reasons. It is not perfect yet but much better. Cars would stutter when driving, delay in shooting projectiles with guns, things of that nature. BUG FIX - AI Markers on the map when found were not showing up when clients load game in MP. Hi Everyone, Seems a few bugs have come up with the new engine version that will take some days to fix. In the meantime, I have sent in this update to revert back to the previous engine version. All the V6.06 changes are included in this V6.07 Version.

CHANGE - Upgraded to version 4.21 of the Unreal Engine. This will result in a large 1GB + download of this update. BUG FIX - Bow not working on client correctly, 2 arrows were being shot. BUG FIX - Opening loot containers would sometimes result in players getting stuck and not being able to close the containers. BUG FIX - Client/Server player pawn out of sync. Hi everyone, I have recently been trying to fix some MP issues just to find out that the version of Unreal 4.20 is the culprit. It seems that this version has some networking bugs that have been corrected on V4.21 of the engine. I will need a few days to upgrade to that engine version to fix most of the MP bugs reported. Hi everyone, I have started to push some AI changes/fixes. You should now see a drastic improvement on AI getting stuck and their ability to shoot through walls and solid objects. Things may still not be 100% fixed so please report any AI still shooting through walls and getting stuck. ADDED - A first pass at AI being ran over by Cars, if they get hit, they will no longer just stand there and block the vehicle. I will make it look better in a few days when I complete some animations but wanted to at least not make them flip cars when getting hit.

BUG FIX - The bow was degrating to fast when firing arrows, a math error. BUG FIX - Some POIs had some items not in the correct places. For example one house had a power plug floating outside the front door. OPTIMIZATION - Started to optimize many new features, already a small gain in FPS and Memory usage in this update. I am still working on the AI behaviors, I have seen some bugs in the behaviors and the community has also reported a few.

BUG FIX – Could drive the cars in the water. I now disable the car if it enters the water. If a car enters the water it will be lost and a new one will need to be purchased. BUG FIX - Elevated a cave that had parts under water. CHANGE - In single player, I now despawn AI on player death and respawn in new locations when you the player respawns. BUG FIX - A major issue after interacting with friendly AI, trying to split items in your inventory would result in the items going poof into thin air. Some have reported their items disappearing when splitting, well this was the cause and it is now fixed.

BUG FIX - Friendly AI were not spawning in MP games, please start a new game if playing MP as they only spawn on game creation. BUG FIX - Quests were not being set when loading a save game in Story Mode without tutorials. BUG FIX - Forgot to remove the free ferry pole item in sandbox games. Sorry for all these small updates, I just like to bang them out as they get fixed.

CHANGE - Removed copper ingots from the water tank recipe. Since there is no longer any copper on Dead Island, it made sense to change it. BUGFIX - AI in towns were spawning in greater numbers than intended, fixed the spawn rate. BUGFIX - Fixed an invisible wall in a house and also fixed a house that had no collision on a side wall allowing players to pass through it. CHANGE - Increased Field Of View (FOV) from 70 to 90, resulting in a greater camera angle.

Hi everyone, I am pushing 1 small change to the game. I am removing the mechanical parts from the bellows crafting recipe. Previously they were easy to find in the one town on Dead Island. Currently seems it can be an issue to find.

Hi everyone, Experimental V6.01 is now available in a beta branch. To access it, right click the game in your Steam library and hit properties. There you will find a BETAS tab, select Experimental V6.01 and launch your game as usual. Once everything is debugged and adjusted/balanced, we will deploy it to the public branch.
